Not at all. The only prerequisite for joining us is a love of beauty and an eye for the extraordinary.

This tour is designed for everyone — from serious photographers wanting to develop their skills and learn new techniques, to complete beginners who simply want to experience Broome at its most beautiful and see it through a different lens.

If you shoot with a smartphone, a compact camera or a professional DSLR — or no camera at all — you are very welcome. I will show you how to get the best out of whatever you have with you.

Absolutely — and it is a particularly wonderful experience for both.

Solo travellers will find themselves in a small, friendly group of like-minded people who share a love of beauty and photography. With a maximum of four participants the atmosphere is relaxed and personal rather than a large group tour.

Couples will find this a genuinely special shared experience — watching Broome's extraordinary light transform through golden hour, sunset and into the blue hour together, with a glass of wine and some nice cheese along the way.

Do I need photography experience?

None whatsoever. This tour is pitched at all levels — from experienced photographers wanting to deepen their skills and see Broome through fresh eyes, to those who have never picked up a camera in their life but simply want to experience one of the world's most beautiful places at its most extraordinary time of day.

For the non-photographers among you, the afternoon through blue hour is a wonderful opportunity to slow down, slip into Broome time and see this remarkable town and landscape the way most visitors never get to.

Is this a photography workshop or an experience?

This is an experience first and foremost — not a workshop. Workshops last days or even weeks, and most participants would still only scratch the surface of what there is to know.

What this is, is an opportunity to spend four hours with a photographer who has worked around the world for almost 30 years — to see how I read light, find compositions and make the most of Broome's extraordinary landscapes and characters at the most beautiful time of day. You will learn a great deal simply by being there and asking questions. That is the best kind of learning.

Prior to your tour I will make contact to find out a little about you, what you are hoping to get out of the experience and whether there are any particular aspects of Broome you would love to photograph. This helps me tailor the tour to get the best possible outcome for everyone.

We will meet at the Broome Visitor Centre carpark 15 minutes prior to our scheduled departure time. Departure times vary seasonally to make the most of the available light — I will confirm your exact departure time when I get in touch before the tour.

From there we head out to carefully chosen locations selected for their light, composition and the unique character they bring to the Kimberley landscape. As the afternoon light deepens into golden hour I will walk you through how I see and photograph this landscape — what I look for, how I read the light and how to find the shot within the shot.

We photograph through sunset and stay on into the blue hour — that brief and magical window after the sun drops when the sky turns deep blue and the landscape glows with a quality of light that simply cannot be replicated. This is often the most beautiful light of the entire day.

Along the way there will be cheese and wine, good conversation and — if the opportunity presents itself — the chance to meet and photograph some of Broome's remarkable characters.

We return to Broome after approximately four hours, as the last light fades.

How do I book a tour?

What does the tour cost?

Standard pricing is as follows:

• Adults — A$185
• Couples — A$350
• Pensioners — A$165
• Children aged 12 to 15 — A$150

Private exclusive tours for up to four participants are available at A$850.

All prices are in Australian Dollars and include GST.

When do I make payment?

Full payment is required at the time of booking. This confirms your place on the tour and ensures your date is exclusively reserved for you.

How far in advance should I book?

I recommend booking as early as possible, particularly during peak season between April and October. Tours are strictly limited to four participants and popular dates fill quickly.

The following things ARE included in the price:

1. Four hours of personalised photography guidance from an internationally recognised photographer and author with almost 30 years experience capturing the Kimberley.
2. Access to carefully chosen locations that showcase Broome at its most beautiful — at the best time of day.
3. Practical photography skills and techniques you can apply for the rest of your trip and beyond — whether you shoot with a dedicated camera or a smartphone.
4. Nice cheese and a glass of wine at sunset.
5. A true appreciation of how extraordinary Broome's light and landscape really is.
6. Free pick-up and drop-off from your Broome accommodation or a convenient meeting point.

The following things are NOT included in the price:

1. Personal photography equipment — camera, lenses, tripod, batteries and memory cards.
2. Travel insurance or personal accident insurance.
3. Medical or evacuation costs.
4. Clothing suitable for outdoor conditions or changing weather.
5. Insect repellent or personal comfort items.
6. Image processing tuition beyond the scope of the tour.
7. Purchase of prints, books or digital images.
8. Any costs arising from late arrival or early departure by the guest.
9. Costs resulting from weather, road conditions or circumstances outside the operator's control.

We meet at the Broome Visitor Centre carpark 15 minutes prior to our scheduled departure time.

Departure times vary seasonally to make the most of the available light — earlier in the dry season when sunset comes later, and progressively earlier as the season advances. I will confirm your exact departure time when I make contact before the tour.

Our return time is approximately four hours after departure, as the last of the blue hour light fades.
If you would prefer to be picked up directly from your accommodation rather than meeting at the Visitor Centre, courtesy pick-up and drop-off is available — just let me know when booking or when I make contact beforehand.

We have a number of locations we "work" around Broome and the location chosen on any particular evening will be a function of star position, weather conditions and light.

Courtesy pick-up and drop-off from your Broome accommodation or a convenient central location is included in the price.

If you would prefer to make your own way to the meeting point at the Broome Visitor Centre carpark, that is perfectly fine too — just let me know when booking or when I make contact before the tour.

Either way, I will be in touch beforehand to confirm all the details including your exact pick-up time and location.

The good news is that you don't need any special equipment for this tour. Unlike night sky photography, afternoon and sunset photography is accessible to almost any camera or device.
That said, here is what I would recommend depending on what you have:

Smartphone photographers: Your phone is perfectly capable of producing beautiful images in the golden hour and blue hour light. I will show you how to get the absolute best out of it — including settings and techniques most people never discover.

Compact and mirrorless camera users: Bring whatever lenses you have. A versatile zoom lens covering something in the range of 24-70mm is ideal but anything will work. If you have a tripod, bring it — it will be useful during the blue hour.

DSLR and advanced camera users: Bring your camera, your favourite lenses and a tripod. A wide angle lens is wonderful for landscape work but again, whatever you have will produce great results in this quality of light.

The most important thing: Make sure your batteries are fully charged and your memory cards have plenty of space. It sounds obvious but it is surprisingly easy to forget in the excitement of being in Broome!

I recommend bringing the following:

• Your camera, phone or whatever you like to shoot with — and a tripod if you have one.
• Sturdy closed toe shoes suitable for walking on uneven ground.
• A hat and sunscreen — we will be out in the Broome afternoon sun for the first part of the tour.
• A light layer for after sunset — temperatures can drop noticeably once the sun goes down, even in the Broome dry season.
• Insect repellent — particularly useful around sunset and into the blue hour.
• A water bottle.
• A camping chair if you have one — there will be moments where we stop, set up and simply enjoy the beauty around us.

The tour is suitable for teenagers aged 12 to 15 at a discounted rate.

Unlike the astrophotography tours which run after dark, this tour finishes at dusk which makes it considerably more accessible for families. The afternoon through sunset format is relaxed, visually spectacular and a genuinely wonderful experience for young people with an interest in photography or the natural world.

Children under 12 are welcome to attend if accompanied by a parent or guardian, however please get in touch before booking so we can discuss suitability and ensure the best possible experience for everyone in your group.

This tour is designed to be accessible to a wide range of fitness levels and abilities. Unlike some outdoor experiences in the Kimberley, this is not a strenuous or physically demanding tour.

That said, the locations we visit may involve some walking on uneven ground including sandy beaches, pindan tracks and natural terrain. A moderate level of mobility is helpful.

If you have any mobility concerns or specific needs please get in touch before booking and I will do everything I reasonably can to accommodate you. I want everyone to have the best possible experience and will always try to find solutions that work for your circumstances.

No question is too small — please just ask.

What is your cancellation policy?

All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing via email.

• More than seven days prior to your tour — your booking may be rescheduled to another available date or a credit issued for future use.
• Within seven days of your tour — payments are non-refundable.
• No-shows or late arrivals — no refund or credit is available.

The bottom line? I'm not here to nickel and dime anyone and will do my best to accommodate all reasonable requests. If something comes up please just get in touch and we'll work something out.

What happens if the weather is poor?

Broome enjoys some of the best weather in Australia for outdoor photography — particularly during the dry season between April and October. That said, occasionally the weather doesn't cooperate.

If conditions are deemed unsuitable I will contact you as early as possible — ideally the day before — to discuss your options. In the event of a weather cancellation you may reschedule to another available date at no additional cost, or receive a full credit.

Can I reschedule my booking?

One complimentary reschedule is available if requested more than seven days prior to your tour.

Rescheduling requests made within seven days will be treated as a cancellation and the above policy will apply. That said, I will always do my best to accommodate people so please just reach out and we will see what we can do.
